IT Component

software and hardware components which make up a stack

IT Components provide the infrastructure for business and technical applications. They provide the basic building blocks of stacks. They include server hardware, storage, software, telecommunication, platforms and related skills and competencies. Together they provide the stack to deploy applications.

There are many categories of IT Components. The following table provides a list of key IT components:

IT Component

Description

Operating System

Software that communicates with the hardware and allows other programs to run

Hypervisor

A hypervisor or virtual machine is a process that separates a computer's operating system and applications from the underlying physical hardware

Compute Server

A computer system specifically designed for processing large amounts of computation

Storage Hardware

Refers to the variety of storage products, systems and related services which include disk, flash and hybrid storage systems and arrays.

Filesystem

A security system for monitoring and controlling both incoming and outgoing traffic on a network. A firewall screens and filters out unwanted network traffic thus stopping outside intrusion into a private network.

Framework

A software tool that provides a way to build and run web applications
